THE MEIJE SKI TOUR

TOUR OF LA MEIJE BY SKI WITH GRANDE COURSE MOUNTAIN GUIDES.

The Tour of La Meije is one of the most iconic and complete ski traverses in the massif. Over several days, we will circumnavigate La Meije (3,984m), linking high-mountain huts, spectacular mountain passes and long descents in a truly alpine environment.

This traverse is aimed at skiers with previous ski touring experience and good technical ability both uphill and downhill. On some sections, crampons and an ice axe will be required to progress through alpine terrain.

It combines adventure, ski mountaineering and high-mountain landscapes in the heart of the Écrins National Park, one of Europe’s great destinations for ski touring.

Duration:

• 5 days.

Programme:

• Day 0: meeting and equipment check. Overnight near Villar-d'Arêne.

• Day 1: ascent to the L'Alpe de Villar-d'Arêne Hut.

  Elevation gain: 450m. Duration: 2–3h

• Day 2: L'Alpe de Villar-d'Arêne Hut – Adèle Planchard Hut.

  Elevation gain: 1,250m. Duration: 5h

• Day 3: Adèle Planchard Hut – Promontoire Hut via Col de la Casse Déserte.

  Elevation gain: 1,450m. Elevation loss: 1,500m. Duration: 8–9h.

• Day 4: Promontoire Hut – L'Aigle Hut.

  Elevation gain: 800m. Elevation loss: 450m. Duration: 6–7h.

• Day 5: ascent of the Meije Orientale and descent to the valley via the Tabuchet Glacier or Glacier de l'Homme.

  Elevation gain: 400m. Elevation loss: 2,200m. Duration: 4–5h

*The traverse can be completed in 4 days by removing the overnight stay at L'Aigle Hut and the ascent of the Meije Orientale, reducing the overall price.

Number of participants:

• Maximum 3 participants per guide.

Difficulty:

• High. Participants must be competent on skis in all types of terrain and snow conditions, have experience with alpine techniques (cramponing and abseiling), and be capable of managing daily elevation gains and losses of 1,200–1,500m.

• 2 participants: €1,050/person

Equipment required

• Clothing suitable for ski touring and adapted to the weather conditions, including spare clothing.

• Ski touring boots (in good condition).

• Ski touring skis + skins + ski crampons (in good condition).

• Avalanche transceiver + shovel + probe.

• Certified helmet (in good condition).

• Lightweight certified climbing harness.

• Mountaineering ice axe and classic crampons.

• Safety lanyard with locking carabiner.

• Basket-style belay/rappel device with HMS locking carabiner.

• Cap/beanie, sunglasses, ski goggles, sun cream, water and food.

• 2–3 pairs of gloves.

• 30L ski touring backpack.

• Headlamp with spare batteries.

• Lightweight sleeping-bag liner for the hut.

• Emergency blanket.
